Unbearable dissertation on a broken line.
The artist's point of departure is the line, understood as a sharp intervention in space, as a possibility of union and connection but also of separation between forces.
the infrastructure of places as their carriers. Works
in balance, which consciously evade any definition
and attempt of appropriation, traces and witnesses
of their process of research and realization,
in a seemingly continuous possibility of transformation.
Sebastian, halfway down, in direct dialogue with the
bearing pillar of the exhibition space, is an installation
composed of aluminium tubes and various types of stone.
The central wall of the gallery is pierced by tubular
elements that reach out to the large windows of the adjacent space, ending up in an interplay of pressure between the stones and the glass. The work becomes a material and post-industrial metaphor of the iconography of the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian: the tubes and the structure appear to arduously attempt to remain standing in a solution of precarious equilibriums. Euro Minute Dollar is confronted more directly with its own process of realization: the point of departure is a graph plotting the course of the Euro/Dollar exchange rate in the last year, covering the entire back wall of the gallery. The plasterboard has been carved out and graven following the lines of the graph until its resolution into an almost complete destruction; the fragments, superimposed onto each other, result in an unstable column. The sign has become action, violent intervention on the materiality of the gallery spaces, a totem of the artistic gesture and emblematic warning to who observes its effects. Hung to the ceiling, an iron circle, Senza titolo (Untitled), part and “result” of
a precedent work that becomes mere material for the
creation of a new piece, an unfinished task, the line
of a circle that is not complete but interrupted.
The difference between an eternal and inevitable contingency and the idea of a coherent and closed universe.
"Unbearable dissertation on a broken line" Catalogue published by Cura.books, with critical texts by Antonia Alampi, Lorenzo Benedetti, Barbara Buchmaier, Federica Martini and Eva Scharrer.
