Arte Povera A-Z
Part I
03.10 - 30.10.14
Museumcultuur Strombeek/Gent

With Arte Povera A-Z, Museumcultuur Strombeek/Gent continues its research into the arts of the last decades. Arte Povera, a notion that was first introduced by the Italian art critic Germano Celant in 1967, was/is an art movement that flourished in the late 1960s; it was inspired by a critical and socially committed attitude of artists following the very rapid industrialisation of Northern Italy. Providing the necessary background, we investigate the intentions of Arte Povera in a broad manner and present the work of both well and lesser known artists who had this Italian art 'label' attached to them. In this first part, works by Mario Merz, Emilio Prini, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Giulio Paolini, Piero Gilardi, Marisa Merz, Gilberto Zorio, Giuseppe Penone, Giovanni Anselmo, Pino Pascali and other artists will be presented next to each other in order to show the diversity of the oeuvres that were grouped under this collective name.
