Villa Romana
Via Senese 68 - Florence
Contemporary English artist, William Furlong, will invade Florence
this summer, as his sonorous works will be featured in a special
exhibit, as well as inspire art students to create a similar piece in a
separate installation. From June 26 to July 27, the Villa Romana
presents Speaking to Others: Who Speaks to Who, a newly
conceptualized project commissioned to Furlong, and especially created
for the spaces of Villa Romana. The work gathers together the voices of
select artists of extreme import, all recorded by William Furlong
between 1973 and 2007 in relation to his collaborative project with
Audio Arts. Who Speaks to Who develops the idea of a composite
conversation, consisting of a montage of original recordings made at
diverse times and in diverse locations, in which Furlong met with the
artists and spoke individually with them. Meanwhile, students have taken
this idea and applied it their own way, as the Florence Dance Center
will host the installation, Vi.Vo: Villa Voices, until June 28.
The work presents a labyrinth of sounds made up of resident artists of
Villa Romana: it is a metaphor for conversation, in terms of its
dynamics and its process of conceptualization.
The Villa Romana is located on Via Senese, 68 in Florence, while the
Florence Dance Center is located on Borgo della Stella, 23r in Florence.
