Friday January 27th at House-museum Giorgio e Isa de Chirico opens the exhibition-project D'après Giorgio, conceived and curated by Luca Lo Pinto. Several Italian and international artists of different generations are invited to dialogue with the works, the objects and the architecture of Giorgio de Chirico's House-museum.
The show will evolve within the space of a year and involves artists intentionally heterogeneous in their generation, poetics and stylistic research: Alek O., Darren Bader, Nina Beier, Carola Bonfili, Benny Chirco, Giulio Frigo, Martino Gamper, Paul Armand Gette, Mino Maccari, Tobias Madison & Kaspar Müller, Marcello Maloberti, Carlo Mollino, Momus, Olaf Nicolai, Henrik Olesen, Luigi Ontani, Nicola Pecoraro, Emilio Prini, Dan Rees, Izet Sheshivari, Alexandre Singh, John Stezaker, Luca Trevisani, Luca Vitone, Raphäel Zarka and upcoming guests.
The exhibited works - installations, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs - are realized specifically for the suggestive spaces of the house where de Chirico had lived in the last thirty years of his life, situated on the top three floors of the 17th century Palazzetto dei Borgognoni, in the centre of what was considered the cultural and artistic centre of the city since XVII century. Like other famous house museums like the Mario Praz Museum, the Soane Museum and the Freud Museum, also de Chirico’s house stimulates and brings into play concepts such as portrait, memory, collection, public/private. Whereas on one hand the pictorial, graphic and sculptural works witness de Chirico's lively artistic activity, on the other hand the decoration and the objects in the house reveal his more intimate and personal side.
In such a context the artists have been invited to contribute with non-invasive works, which are able to dialogue with the space by merging with it, with the intention to create various and multiple levels, narrative and interpretative. "D'après Giorgio intends to create a second level of interpretation of the house for people who come here and offer a new perspective on de Chirico's figure, thanks to a dialogue with contemporary artists" - explains Luca Lo Pinto - "The title of the show refers to the famous ‘d’après’ of de Chirico himself and is a way of paying homage to a key figure of the twentieth century avant-garde whose influence on the younger generations still keeps up today. At the same time the exhibition is an opportunity to introduce the house/museum to a wider public. The idea is to create a long story where the art works function as chapters in order to produce a narration at the same time expanded and frenetic, didactic and evasive, intimate and conceptual".
Not all the works will be presented at the opening at once, there will be several phases: in the course of/ during the year new works by new artists will be added, the result will be a "museum within a museum" in the making.
The visitors will be accompanied by a person in charge of the institution, who will illustrate the house and the project, creating with an own interpretation a further narrative level.
In occasion of the show Momus has realized an audio work which will function as a soundtrack.
The staff of the museum will wear uniforms especially designed by designer Julia Frommel.
Moreover for the whole project for the first time there will be presented to the public a series of photographs of the foundation's archive .
The catalogue is conceived as an art work by Izet Sheshivari. It is made of 365 pages, each one corresponds to a day of the year of duration of the show.

Venerdì 27 gennaio inaugura a Roma presso la Casa-museo Giorgio de Chirico il progetto espositivo D'après Giorgio, ideato e curato da Luca Lo Pinto, che prevede gli interventi di diversi artisti italiani e stranieri di livello internazionale, invitati a dialogare con le opere, gli oggetti e l'architettura della Casa-museo de Chirico.
La mostra si articola nell’arco di un anno e coinvolge artisti volutamente eterogenei fra loro per generazione, poetica e ricerca stilistica: Alek O, Darren Bader, Nina Beier, Carola Bonfili, Benny Chirco, Giulio Frigo, Martino Gamper, Paul Armand Gette, Mino Maccari, Tobias Madison & Kaspar Müller, Marcello Maloberti, Carlo Mollino, Momus, Olaf Nicolai, Henrik Olesen, Luigi Ontani, Nicola Pecoraro, Emilio Prini, Dan Rees, Izet Sheshivari, Alexandre Singh, John Stezaker, Luca Trevisani, Luca Vitone e Raphäel Zarka e altri a venire.
I lavori esposti - installazioni, dipinti, disegni, sculture, fotografie – sono realizzati appositamente per i suggestivi spazi della casa in cui de Chirico abitò negli ultimi trent’anni della sua vita, sviluppata sui tre piani superiori del seicentesco Palazzetto dei Borgognoni in Piazza di Spagna, nel cuore di quello che fu considerato il centro culturale e artistico della città fin dal XVII secolo. Come altre celebri case-museo, quali il Museo Praz, il Soane Museum o il Freud Museum, anche la casa di Giorgio de Chirico stimola il visitatore a riflettere su tematiche inerenti al ritratto, alla memoria, all’idea di collezione, al rapporto fra pubblico e privato. Se le opere pittoriche, grafiche e scultoree testimoniano la fervida attività del de Chirico artista, l’arredamento e gli oggetti presenti nella casa ne svelano un lato più intimo e personale.
In questo contesto, gli artisti invitati al progetto sono chiamati a intervenire con opere non invasive, in grado di relazionarsi con lo spazio e di mimetizzarsi in esso, al fine di creare vari e molteplici livelli narrativi e interpretativi. “D’après Giorgio si propone di creare un secondo livello di lettura della Casa-museo per le persone che la visitano e di offrire un nuovo punto di vista su de Chirico, attraverso il dialogo instaurato con gli artisti contemporanei” – spiega Luca Lo Pinto – “Il titolo della mostra fa riferimento ai famosi ‘d’après’ dello stesso de Chirico ed è un modo di rendere omaggio a una figura cardine dell'avanguardia del Novecento, la cui influenza sulle nuove generazioni di artisti persiste ancora oggi. Nel contempo è l’occasione per far conoscere la Casa-museo a un pubblico sempre più ampio, attraverso una mostra pensata come una lunga storia, con le opere a fungere da capitoli, al fine di produrre una narrazione al tempo stesso dilatata e frenetica, didascalica e sfuggente, intima e concettuale”.
I lavori verranno presentati non simultaneamente durante l’inaugurazione, ma in più fasi: nel corso dell’anno nuove opere di nuovi artisti andranno ad aggiungersi a quelle già presenti, in modo da creare un "museo nel museo" in fieri. I visitatori saranno accompagnati da un responsabile della Fondazione, che illustrerà la casa e il progetto creando, con la propria interpretazione, un ulteriore livello narrativo.
In occasione della mostra Momus ha realizzato un lavoro audio che fungerà da colonna sonora.
Lo staff del museo indosserà delle divise disegnate ad hoc dalla designer Julia Frommel.
Inoltre, per tutta la durata del progetto viene presentata per la prima volta al pubblico una serie di fotografie tratte dall'archivio della Fondazione.
