There is no Unconscious except for the Speaking Being

Jacques Lacan - Télévision

In 1972, Jacques-Alain Miller proposed to bring Jacques Lacan (1901–1981) on TV into the living rooms of all of France. The interview Miller conducted with the famous psychoanalyst was broadcast by the French TV station ORTF in a program titled Psychanalyse and was subsequently rewritten and, in 1974, renamed Télévision. Broadcast in two parts on March 9 and 16, 1974. Director: Benoît Jacquot.

Lacan’s one and only television appearance, broadcast just ten years after he founded the Ecole Freudienne de Paris, was no popular version of his teachings. Instead, he offered opaque statements on affect, psychic energy, and repression in the family in a strange and singular document that is as much about psychoanalysis as it is about the way Lacan performs for TV.
